SPEAKER BIO:

Alex Muggah, a Hamilton native, is the Director of the Hamilton Synapse Life Science Consortium.  He is responsible for leading efforts and activities in support of the Consortium, a partnership of key anchor life science organizations from across the Hamilton region (including McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s, Mohawk College, etc) representing 25,000 employees.

The Consortium’s mandate is to accelerate the commercialization of innovation from Hamilton’s world-class academic and research centers and institutes, as well as attract new companies, investment, and talent into the region, as well as opening up export growth opportunities and relationships for companies already here. Synapse acts as an independent concierge and advocate for both public and private sector members, helping to build new networks and partnerships both within and outside the region. It provides a forum drive cluster-wide initiatives and networks, enabling stakeholders to leverage shared assets and resources in the community, in order to support a healthy life sciences cluster here in the Hamilton region.

Prior to joining Synapse, Alex worked as the Director of Reporting at the Massachusetts Health Connector (an Obamacare exchange), having previously worked in Deloitte’s public-sector consulting group (Toronto & Boston), the Harvard Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs.

Matthew Rosato, P.Eng, MBA, is the Founder and President of PROVA Innovations Ltd. PROVA Innovations is a medical technology company that specializes in wearable technology solutions for in-home GAIT training and rehabilitation. PROVA is focused on helping patients with a brain injury, neurological disorder, degenerative disease, or mobility issue regain function through the promotion of neuroplasticity and neuromotor recovery.  PROVA Innovations is headquartered at the Forge within McMaster’s Innovation Park..
