ABSTRACT:
Hamilton has been one of the founding communities in Canada to commit to creating an Age-Friendly city, with the initial Age-Friendly Plan being released in 2014. The second Age-Friendly Plan has recently been completed and will be officially launched in June 2021. This presentation will discuss the ways that the 2021-2026 Age Friendly Hamilton Plan incorporates goal areas, objectives, and recommendations to support mobility of older people in both the urban and more rural areas of Hamilton. Goals related to transportation, social participation, civic engagement, outdoor spaces and buildings all address issues related to mobility. This presentation will share background on the development of the 2021-2026 Age Friendly Hamilton Plan, discuss mobility related goals, objectives and recommendations, and discuss next steps planned for implementation of the plan.
